Important Wildfire Safety Notice

Fire Safety

Greetings Neighbors,

Our region is experiencing unusually dry weather, increased wildfire activity across North Florida, and elevated fire danger values have been reported by the Florida Forest Service. These conditions mean that even small sparks can ignite a fire quickly, making prevention and early reporting of fires more important than ever.

Follow Florida Forest Service (FFS) Regulations
All outdoor burning must comply with Florida Forest Service rules and authorization requirements. Only burn when permitted, never leave a fire unattended, and ensure all flames and embers are fully extinguished before leaving the area. Current wildfire information and safety guidance as well as regulations can be found at:

Prevent Accidental Ignitions
Many wildfires begin with routine activities. Avoid spark producing work such as welding, grinding, or the use of metal equipment during the driest or windiest times of day.

Maintain Defensible Space Around Homes
Residents are encouraged to remove dry leaves and pine straw, clean gutters, trim back vegetation, and maintain a 30-foot buffer around structures. These steps help reduce the spread of fire and improve safety for both households and the surrounding community.

Use Outdoor Equipment Safely
Operate lawn mowers, chainsaws, and other powered equipment only when grass and vegetation are not excessively dry. Engines can create heat or sparks that may ignite nearby fuels.

Grill and Fire Pit Safety
Keep grills and fire pits away from dry vegetation and have water or a fire extinguisher available. Fully extinguish coals before disposing of them.

Proper Disposal of Smoking Materials
Smoking materials should never be discarded on the ground or from vehicles. Ensure cigarettes and similar items are completely out before disposal.

Report Smoke or Fire Promptly
If you observe unattended fire, unusual smoke, or any signs of a brush or wildland fire, call 9-1-1 immediately. Early reporting is critical to protecting lives and property.
