All inquiries regarding burn permits, setbacks and requirements for burning, both city and county should be directed to the Florida Forest Service. They may be contacted at 850-681-5951 or 850-681-5950.
Open Burning:
- Check with your local Florida Forest Service office to make sure it is legal to burn in your area:
- Make sure you meet the required setbacks.
- 25 feet from any wildlands, brush or combustible structure.
- 25 feet from your house.
- 150 feet from other occupied buildings.
- 50 feet from paved public roads.
- Only an 8 feet diameter burn pile OR Non-Combustible Container.
- Burn only yard waste, no household garbage (includes paper products and newspapers).
- Burning is Not permitted on rainy, foggy, or windy days.
- Never leave a fire unattended.
- Keep a water hose or shovel handy in case your fire escapes.
- Make sure smoke does not obstruct visibility on nearby roads.
- Be sure fire is completely out before you leave.
