Tekesta Park Playground Replacement

Over the years, the popular playground at Tekesta Park has been a staple for families in the Killearn Lakes neighborhood. The park itself hosts birthday parties, baseball games and monthly Food Truck Fridays, while the playground allows children a safe place to exercise, play, and build friendships. After nearly 20 years, the playground at Tekesta Park is deteriorating and in need of replacement.

A Playground Committee, comprised of volunteers from the neighborhood, began meeting in early 2018 to plan the fundraising for a new play space for Tekesta Park. The committee met with local playground equipment representatives to envision a new space.

In addition to resources from our HOA, the committee also began soliciting contributions to the park from local businesses to help fund the cost to remove and replace the playground. Thank you to Killearn Lakes TaeKwonDo, First Florida Credit Union and Mom & Dad’s Italian Restaurant for their generous contributions. A sincere thank you to Brian Kendall, owner of Doctor Drainage, who will contribute the demolition of the old playground. Many thanks to our community members who contributed, as well.

Playground Replacement

The new playground structure will include slides, swings, a climbing area, and play panels at ground level. The playground will continue to have two play areas – one suitable for our two to five year old children and the other suitable for 5 to 12 year-olds. Most importantly, as well as most requested, the new space incorporates shade into the structure. We aim to encourage active play for children of all ages and abilities in a safe and fun environment.

The new playground will be installed the week of June 24, 2019. Community members are asked to assist with the demolition of the current space on Saturday, June 22nd. More information about the community workday will be released via the KLHOA social media channels as well as Next Door. We would love to see you there!

Special thanks to the Playground Committee members for their tireless efforts to see this park to fruition. Committee members include: Karen Benavidez, Jill Lumsden, Jill Earhart and Kelly O’Rourke.

We look forward to many memories made at the Tekesta Park Playground.
